The .Ping Registry’s mission is to serve as a refreshing and exciting new namespace for the Internet users of the world. .Ping is for everyone - from individuals to large conglomerate businesses, from universities to entertainment houses, from bloggers to social networks and everything in between.

‘Ping’ is a word that is synonymous with quick, short instant messages, chat conversations, emails, notifications and so on. As a verb, ping means ‘to get the attention of’ or ‘to check for the presence of’ another party online. The word is easily associated with energy, pep and exclamation. Even for segments of the general population, who may not associate with the meaning, it is yet a catchy, likeable onomatopoeic word which makes it an exciting, fun, brandable and memorable TLD to have for anyone at all.

‘Ping’ being a generic word, a website on this TLD would not stand for anything as do the existing gTLDs. .com is for companies, .biz is for businesses, .org is for organizations, and ccTLDs are for specific countries. .Ping does not categorise, identify or restrict the entity’s website, nor comes with any preconception of meaning.

With .Ping, individuals, entrepreneurs, communities, entities, hobbyists, students and anyone else can get their preferred choice of name. Too often today, when a potential registrant goes to a registrar’s site to register a new domain name, the domain name is unavailable and the registrant is presented with a long list of permutation options that are not their preferred choice – either for the name or the TLD. Our research shows that today, close to 70% of all .com ‘check-availability’ lookups result in names not being available (Internal Research data). The registrant is left with no choice but to register substandard names that do not exactly denote what visitors should expect to find on the website.

The .Ping Registry will aim to serve as an open and available-to-all namespace, which we positively believe, will invite innovation and fresh possibilities at a global level. The Mission and purpose of our TLD is also to contribute to the Internet Namespace in the following ways:

1.1 ENHANCE REGISTRANT CHOICE

To create a namespace that provides registrants greater choice to represent themselves online in the manner they please. Due to the saturated nature of the existing gTLD space, many Internet users have to opt for a name that does not suit their needs best. Our Registry will provide Registrants a higher probability of obtaining their desired name.

1.2 CREATE A CLEANER INTERNET SPACE

To create a cleaner internet experience for end users by implementing pioneering registration policies, content and usage policies, and abuse mitigation processes.

1.3 CREATE A STABLE AND RESILIENT INTERNET SPACE

To deliver a stable and resilient internet experience to registrants and end-users by going above and beyond the ICANN mandated SLAs and delivering 100% resolution uptime

This completes our response to Q18(a).
